Gate Site Survey Checklist for Installers

A reliable gate proposal starts with evidence collected consistently. Use this guide as a working structure, then adapt it to your products, jurisdiction and competent-person requirements.

Confirm the project and reference points

Open the correct customer site before measuring. Identify whether dimensions refer to existing finished faces, structural supports or proposed new work. Record units consistently and photograph the points used.

Measure the opening and movement space

Capture width, height, returns, run-back or swing area, ground levels, slope and overhead restrictions. Check that vehicles and pedestrians can use the proposed movement safely.

Inspect supports and surfaces

Record posts, walls, foundations, track surfaces, drainage and visible defects. Do not assume an existing structure can carry a new gate without appropriate assessment.

Power, automation and safety

Identify supply availability, proposed cable routes, controller position, manual release access and likely safety-device locations. Confirm that further electrical or safety assessment is clearly assigned.

Finish with evidence review

Take overview and detail photographs, note uncertainties and review the record before leaving. Missing information should become an action, not an unsupported assumption.
